About Me

I'm 80 years old, I was given a kenwood 680 by my son in law who got it from his boss. Decided I should do something with it so I wrote my Basic exam in August 2014 and passed Basic with Honors. While trying to set up a station I met VE1CHU from the PCARC. Besides locating a tower and equipment at a decent price, Bill did a lot of work setting up an antenna system for me.  This antenna system consists of a 46 ft tower; 6 Meter beam; HF beam for (10; 12; 15; 17 and 20 meters) Sloping V dipoles for 80; 40 and 17 meters plus a 30 foot tower with a 2 meter Omni and a 2 meter beam. However the 2 meter beam is not on the tower as of yet. I plan to use it for SSB  as the 2M vertical is giving excellent FM coverage on that band

I'm not new to electronics, I put in 17 years as a RCAF Communications ground technician, HF; VHF; UHF;  FM mobile and  microwave / Multiplex systems in Europe. My last two years in the service  were as a trade advancement instructor.  In 1976 I beganwork at the Michelin Granton Plant as an instrumentation technician for quality control, and took early retirement Dec 1991.  On  the 19 of March 2015 I wrote and passed the Advance exam

Over the years I've had many hobbies Boating; Motorcycles; swimming and SCUBA diving; Model Railroad RV'ing and now amateur radio

Thanks for replying Willis! I need all the help I can get! It's been so long since I took my basic exam and I really don't think the group I was with taught me anything ... Or maybe they did and I just lost it all. Getting connected with you and your friends would be great! I am a different person in the area - we have joined the Mennonite church here in Pictou County. I'm hoping that my connections with Ham radio will open up communications for churches in other countries. I was just speaking with our new friends here that are heading to DR at the end of this month to help their missionary parents. They only communicate where they are by two way. So I was pleased to tell him there is a way we can open up communication by radio from here but I'd need to get help from the experts :) So here I am. :)
